Self Defense Escape Lessons (wrist + arm grab, handshake, etc.)

fuck-customers:

I’m an MMA student (jeet kune do) and have been for over 10 years now. My studio has always focused on self-defense, and seeing as many people here deal with customers grabbing their wrists, arms, hands, etc. I figured I should teach what I know, and show how to escape these things.

First off: self-defense is necessary, and everyone has the right to defend themselves should they feel in danger. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, you are entitled to self-protection, and no matter what any boss or job says, your life takes priority!!! Put your life before your job because you can never get it back!!!

Wrist/Arm Grab
Swing your arm in a circle toward the outside of the attacker, breaking the attacker’s grip off from your arm/wrist.

If the person grabs your arm/wrist with both hands
Make a fist with the hand being grabbed, reach between their arms and grasp your fist with your free hand, then pull it toward you.

It’s similar to this movement, though here the person grabs their attacker’s hand and pulls it away from theirs. It’s great for one-arm attacks, but entirely insufficient for two-arm because the goal is get both hands off at the same time. That way, you can run free rather than have the attacker come after you with their only free hand.

Handshakes
As simple as it sounds, many do not know where the knuckles properly are. This diagram gives the proper location IN RED!!!!! I cannot stress this enough!!! THE RED PARTS ARE YOUR KNUCKLES!!!!!You can and will hurt yourself if you use any other part of your hand as a substitute!!!!!

There are 2 simple ways to escape a handshake. First one is, with your free hand make a fist, then bash it into the face of the hand attacker is shaking with. The face is what’s right between the red and green areas. The key spot is right beneath the knuckles (red) and will inflict the most pain.

Second is make a fist with your free hand, then rub your fist’s knuckles or even the green parts right beneath the knuckles as this is the most sensitive spot and will inflict the most pain. Dig into the area, and make the person let go.

I hope this helps some of you stay safe and feel comfortable knowing you now have the knowledge to escape these should they ever happen. Remember that practice makes perfect and you MUST ask friends, family, whoever, to help you practice these. They take just a few seconds to do, but going through the motions repeatedly will reinforce the muscle memory meaning, even during times of panic, your muscles will remember how to escape even if your mind does not.
